I think the Be diaphragms are lighter and have a higher resonant frequency than the aluminum ones. In my experience, the cleaner upper octaves result in superior reproduction of orchestral strings. The aluminum has extra output, but to me it's not clean enough. Definitely not a drop-in replacement, though.
