Got my eye on an old Tree Milling machine

I'm not knocking the Tree collet system, like I said I own a 2UVR. My U.S. Machine Tool mill uses #9 B&S which also work just fine for me, although they don't release from the spindle as easily as R8's. Machine tool makers pushed for standard tooling systems years ago, hence 40 and 50 taper tooling for bigger machines.

Tree mill collets not releasing?

Learning the ropes on using the Tree collets- seems there's a fine line between getting the collet tension tight enough so that the cutter won't break loose under heavy cuts, and not so tight it won't release. The paperwork I have says to snug the collet nut by hand, then back off a half-turn.
